Description
THE DYNAMO’s Original concept came from Vance Burrows around 2000. He wanted something with the paddle power of his longboard with the performance of a shortboard. So we essentially took a 9’ longboard and chopped 2 feet out of the middle.
We made it. He loved it, and so has everyone since. Get in early with amazing paddle power and still hook some decent turns.
Sunova Boards are based on 2 principles Board Construction and Board Design
Board Construction: Sunova has turned to using natural materials, like balsa and paulownia wood, which have enabled them to construct higher performing boards than could ever have previously been achieved with conventional materials.
Board Design: In addition, these natural materials have made it possible for the Sunova Team to implement new and radical designs into their boards. Like Bert’s own creation of “the Parabolic Rails”, which has revolutionized surfing technology and utilizes the forces of true surfing action occurring at the rails. Giving much more direct flex and spring by moving the mechanics to both rails and not relying on only the centre stringer.
Product Details
Using a combination of natural materials and new design technologies, Sunova is making some of the highest performing boards with the lightest, strongest and toughest constructions. Double vacuum, fully wrapped sustainably sourced wood sandwich boards.
This Sunova board has been designed and constructed with a purpose. The details of which are extensive and worth understanding.
SHAPER DETAILS / DESIGN INFO
OUTLINE
Longboard style nose, clean outline, rounded pin. With the full longboard nose, the board climbs on top of the water really fast, within the first few strokes. The center outline runs a longer straighter arc, so when on rail it really keeps and maintains great down the line speed and easily drives around sections. The area in the nose loves whitewater, you climb onto and over whitewater like it was green water, this makes it feel super stable in roundhouses where you hit the white water. The tail still pulls in relatively tight, so off the back foot you can still get a decent snap, but not too close to the pocket, or the nose can get in the way.
RAILS
Low, shortboard performance style. The low rails offer some sensitivity, the first thing you do when turning is bury one rail, when it’s lower it drops in quicker and easier. This helps offset some of the stiffness coming from the outline.
ROCKER
Medium rocker. With this amount of rocker, the board stays nice and fast and maintains good carry and paddle speed.
BOTTOM
Flat bottom. Fast and reliable, to date it's been a fun all round board to ride. I would probably be open to dropping a single concave through the tail of this board.
DECK
The deck has a fairly standard profile. The board is not super thick, so even though it has low rails, the roll is quite comfortable.
FINS
Thruster. For top to bottom surfing the thruster is always the best performance option.
